The 5 Most Passionate Fanbases in Sports, Ranked
From the Cowboys to Manchester United, we rank the world's most passionate sports fanbases using attendance, online engagement, and loyalty.

Even Einstein probably had his own theory on the passionate sports fan debate, but it still wouldn't explain why every fan swears their team is the best. While Cowboys fans claim to be America's team, and Manchester United supporters gloat about their truly global fanbase, the truth of the matter is – when it comes to fan obsession, neither team tops the table.
Finally, Bodog settles the argument once and for all, having rounded up all the biggest names from the NFL, NBA, MLB, and beyond to reveal which five teams can boast the most devoted supporters on the planet… and those who just missed out.
The Top Five Most Passionate Fan Bases
It's fair to say there is no one true metric to gauge and compare the best-supported franchise fan bases in the world, so we use quite a few.
Sure, regular 80,000+ attendances are impressive when you have the stadium to do it with, but hitting near capacity every week makes for a far stronger narrative. Likewise, TV ratings and online trending parameters such as Reddit subscribers and engagement levels, Google Trends indicators, as well as team-based forums all become pertinent criteria, particularly when judged against the relative size of the team itself.
So enough of the preamble, here's the definitive countdown of the top five most passionate team fans in the world.
5. Los Angeles Dodgers - 85/100
Given the commitment required for a 162-game MLB regular season, it's all the more impressive that the LA Dodgers not only registered more than four million stadium admissions in the 2026 season alone, but also seriously outpaced prestige franchises like the NY Yankees by nearly 10,000 fans per game. And while Moneyball taught us that baseball was a game of numbers, Dodgers fans would have to agree, having clocked up 14 sellouts and 40+ games with more than 50,000 fans.
Beyond the stadium turnstiles too, external fanaticism can be seen when monitoring their massive online presence on Reddit, as well as a hefty tally of daily search engine traffic to boot. Another telling driver is the appeal of their fans outside of LA, as seen in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, when a whopping 27.3 million viewers watched them beat the Blue Jays.
4. Denver Nuggets - 87/100
Securing fourth place in the rankings, the Denver Nuggets' impassioned fans have transformed Mile High City into a genuine NBA fortress by packing in over 812,000 spectators during the 2025/26 season. An impressive stat in itself, but having averaged 19,826 every home game – second only to the Chicago Bulls – the Nuggets' fan base topped the NBA, selling out every home game, alongside several other additional fan-based metrics too.
Undoubtedly inspired by three-time MVP Nikola Jokić and the franchise's historic 2023 NBA championship, relative to every other NBA franchise, it's no wonder why Denver fans are punching well above their weight in the rankings.
3. Dallas Cowboys - 90/100
Love them or loathe them, the Dallas Cowboys fans have plenty of evidence to support their claims of fanbase superiority – not least having hit the highest Google Trends figures of any team on this top-five shortlist – yet, sadly for them, they still fell just short.
No doubt, their attendance records would have won the contest hands down, having topped the NFL rankings by more than 13,000 spectators per game with an average of 92,991 in 2025, a surprising fact given the prolonged wait for another Super Bowl appearance. Nevertheless, Cowboys fans still flock to games in record numbers as AT&T Stadium reconfigures its stadium beyond the advertised 80,000 capacity to accommodate far larger game-day crowds in excess of 116%.
No. 2. Manchester United - 92/100
Despite being far removed from the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United’s remarkable hometown loyalty sees it regularly pack out 99.8% of its 74,158-seater Old Trafford stadium, despite their dismal start to the EPL season. Nonetheless, another massively influential factor is the Red Devils’ dominance in the fan-oriented rankings and their online search traffic, driven by an overtly passionate North American fanbase.
Of course, it also helps to have a sports stadium just 15 minutes from the airport, which is ideal for US fans passing through Manchester, toying with the layover math about whether to watch their beloved team in action.
Who Just Missed the Cut Then?
First up, spare a thought for Borussia Dortmund fans in Germany, who somehow missed the shortlist despite selling out every single one of their 17 home league games at the 81,365-seat Signal Iduna Park last season. Yet, the deafening roar of its famous Yellow Wall, and Dortmund's perfect 100% attendance record simply couldn't make up for its comparatively small North American search engine traffic performance.
Another worthy contender are the fans of hockey’s most decorated franchise, the Montreal Canadiens, who may also feel aggrieved, having averaged 20,962 per home game. Likewise, five-time NBA champions the San Antonio Spurs, well known across the league for their dedicated supporters, were another unlucky omission, having also racked up an average attendance of 18,578, which at 103% capacity, is just 1,600 short of Chicago’s season average.
Speaking of the Bulls, they themselves and fellow sporting behemoths Real Madrid fans will be disappointed to have missed out, having both dropped points for lower stadium occupancy at games - the Bulls at 97%, and the Galácticos reaching a below-par 86%.
Most Passionate Fan Bases, Ranked
| Rank | Team | Game-Day Attendance | US Online Rankings | Fan Loyalty vs. Market Size | Total /100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Green Bay Packers | 95.6% | 7.19 | 29/30 | 94 |
| 2 | Manchester United | 99.8% | 5.66 | 27/30 | 92 |
| 3 | Dallas Cowboys | 116.2% | 14.26 | 20/30 | 90 |
| 4 | Denver Nuggets | 91.5% | 12.13 | 22/30 | 87 |
| 5 | LA Dodgers | 88.9% | 9.92 | 22/30 | 85 |
Does Passion Actually Translate Into Success?
That's the funny thing about sports fandom - years of repeated championships will inevitably attract fans to become loyal supporters, but the true litmus test can only be measured when the trophy runs dry up. So, while the Dallas Cowboys may also be the second most hated team in sports, their notable absence in the Super Bowl since 1995 doesn't seem to have stopped Cowboys Nation from turning up game after game.
However, without a doubt, Green Bay Packers fans are cut from a rather different cloth. Just like their counterparts in Dallas and Manchester United, their championship-winning days may seem like a long time ago - but simply listening to the crowd cheering at Lambeau Field on any given game day, and you'd definitely never have thought it.
