You've Been Promo-Banned on a Sweepstakes Casino. Now What?

Have you noticed that your sweepstakes casino is sending you fewer promotional offers than before? Maybe the casino suddenly changed your rewards, or you're having trouble redeeming some of them. In these cases, the casino may have promo-banned your account.

What many players call promo banning is a condition usually associated with real-money online casinos and sportsbooks, but some sweepstakes casino players are now finding themselves getting promo-banned. Today, you’ll learn what promo banning is, what causes it, and what you can do if it happens to you.

What is Promo Banning?

When someone is promo-banned from a traditional online casino or online sportsbook, their ability to take part in promotions is reduced or even eliminated. Sweepstakes casinos do the same thing, and it can take several forms.

Here are some examples of things that can happen when someone is promo-banned:

Daily Rewards Reduction – Many sweepstakes platforms will reduce or even eliminate your daily rewards when you’re on a promo ban. For example, Hello Millions and McLuck have reduced my daily SC rewards to .10 per week.

Restricted Social Media Promotions – I have noticed that some operators reduce the number of promotions you can claim from social media sites. Sometimes, when you try to claim a promo code from Facebook or X, you might see a message like “Offer is not valid for this account” or “Promos disabled for this user.”

Elimination of Discount on Low-Cost GC Packages – Some providers eliminate discounts on low-cost GC packages. For example, a provider may refuse to give you a discount or coin boost on any packages under a certain level. Often, discounts on packages under $200 disappear entirely.

Caps on Free Play Redemptions – Some operators cap the amount of free play you can redeem. Often, they set this cap below the minimum redemption threshold, forcing you to make a purchase to earn enough for redemption. (What happened to “no purchase necessary?”)

If you’ve experienced any of the above at a sweepstakes casino, the casino has likely promo-banned you.

What Causes Someone to Get Promo Banned?

Promo banning doesn’t happen at random. There’s usually a reason a casino has decided to restrict your account. Here are the most common reasons promo banning happens. 

Promo Abuse

A casino offers promos to encourage you to deposit and play. However, some players can take advantage of these offers and win more than the average player. This often happens when a player only claims offers that give them a higher-than-average chance of earning redemption.

For example, I rarely purchase unless I can get a 100% boost, meaning I get double the SC of my purchase. I often take that SC and roll it over on games to earn a quick redemption, or at least make some significant progress toward one. 

This should probably be referred to more as “promo advantage play,” but the bottom line is that if you win too often with promos, you’re going to get restricted.

You Win Too Much on Free Play 

Sweepstakes casinos are supposed to be “no purchase necessary” to play, but the reality is that if you start winning too much on free play, there's a chance you’re going to get restricted. Most casinos address this by reducing your daily rewards to a point where it gets too monotonous to win with free play. 

If that doesn’t work, the casino may eliminate your rewards and restrict other forms of free promotions. Earlier, I mentioned a 25 SC redemption cap. Four casinos imposed this restriction on me in the past week, and one site’s support told me it was because I haven’t purchased in a few months.

You Win Too Much in General

Like with traditional real-money online casinos, if you start winning too much at a casino, the casino may restrict or reduce promotional offers. Chances are that the casino will eliminate discounts on most promotional purchases, except maybe the highest-priced packages.

Additionally, you may start to notice delays in redemptions, or the casino may pay your redemptions in installments. Some sweepstakes casinos include clauses that allow them to pay large payments in installments, typically if your redemption is over $2,500. 

Will a sweepstakes casino ban you for winning too much? It is definitely possible, but not as likely as it is with real-money online casinos and sportsbooks.

What to Do If You Get Promo Banned

So you have discovered that you’re promo banned. How you proceed will depend on your play style and other factors like how often you purchase at a casino. Here’s how I have approached the various sites that have promo banned me in one way or another:

Make a Purchase – If my promo banning is in the form of reduced daily rewards, sometimes a GC package purchase will reset this, at least temporarily. This doesn’t always help though.

Play With Reduced Rewards – If a site merely reduces the amount of my rewards, like from .50 to .30 per day, I may continue to play, but may just let the rewards stack a little before using them.

Quit Purchasing – In the case of some sites, I have quit purchasing because there are no reasonably priced boosts. If the daily rewards are still solid, I have no problem doing this.

Quit Playing at the Casino – There are over a dozen casinos I have quit playing at because of promo banning, especially if they eliminate daily rewards or give me a low free play redemption cap. Dozens of other sites will give you reasonable rewards and promotions, so play at one of those alternatives.

If You Get Promo Banned: Congratulations!

Ultimately, if you find yourself getting promo banned from sweepstakes casinos, it’s likely because you’re a winning player. Casinos aren’t going to restrict promotions from players they are making money off of. They are much more likely to get more promotional offers, not fewer.

Granted, it is annoying to get restricted at a casino where you’ve been winning. Luckily, there are plenty of alternatives with similar promotions and gaming, and they'll give you another chance to replicate your success. Take note of what worked for you at the last casino and apply what worked at your next site. Good luck, and congrats!
