What are the limits of the game and what does NL, PL and FX mean?
We offer three different types of betting limits: No Limit, Pot Limit and Fixed Limit. The type of limit will depend on the amount that can be bet on each betting round.
Fixed Limited (FL)
In a fixed limit game, the bet values and the raises in each betting round are predetermined as indicated by the table "stakes". For example:
In a USD 5 / USD 10 Fixed Limit Hold’em game, both bets and raises from the first two betting rounds must be USD 5, no more, no less. Similarly, the last two betting rounds have a value and raise of USD 10.
In fixed limit games each betting round has a maximum of three allowed raises, known as Top. This way, if a bet is made, it can only be increased about three times. Then, all players must pay that value or leave. If only two players remain, the top goes up to a maximum of five increases. This rule applies in all betting rounds in order to speed up the game.
Pot Limit (PL)
In a pot limit game, you cannot bet more than the current pot value by adding the amount needed to match the previous bet. The minimum bet is the big blind (USD 10, considering our example) and if a bet is made, all raises must be equal to or greater than the previous raise, for example:
You are playing a game with a pot limit of USD 5 / USD 10 and the pot reaches USD 100. A player bets the minimum of USD 10, you have a very good hand, and you want to raise the bet. The most you can raise is the value you get from adding: the original pot (USD 100) + the previous bet (USD 10) + the value necessary to match the bet (USD 10) = USD 120. This makes the total bet of USD 130.
Then, another player to your left wants to raise the maximum bet value. This player must follow the same formula adding one more step: the original pot (USD 100) + previous bets (previous player's bet USD 10 + your bet USD 120) + the value to match the bet (USD 130) = USD 360 This makes the player's total bet on your left $ 490 (your bet + your raise).
Now suppose your hand is not good enough to make a bet, however you want to increase another player's bet. Your raise must be the minimum equal to your bet. This way, if that other player bets USD 10, you must bet USD 20 and the next player USD 40.
There is no limit to the number of raises allowed per betting round, you can continue betting until your money runs out.
No Limit (NL)
In the No Limit category, there are no maximum limits, which means that you can bet all your chips at any time. The minimum bet is the value of the big blind (USD 10, in the example of USD 5 / USD 10). Just like in the pot limit game, your raise must be equal to the previous bets. There is no limit to the amount of raises allowed in each betting round.
In both Pot Limit and No Limit, if someone bets or raises all their chips you can choose to do an "all in". In this case, any new increases will go to a secondary pot of which you will not be a part. If you have the best hand, you will win the maximum pot that contains your "all in" bet and the secondary pot will go to the person with the next best hand.
